Primers, Paints and Antifouling

Primers, paints and antifouling coatings are essential for protecting and maintaining boats in perfect condition, preventing corrosion, osmosis and the accumulation of marine organisms on the hull.

🔹 Marine Primers (Undercoats and Adhesion Primers)

Primers prepare the surface to ensure better adhesion of paints or antifouling coatings.

Types of primers

✔️ Epoxy primers → for anti-corrosion and anti-osmosis protection (e.g. Epoxy Primer, Gelshield 200).
✔️ Single-component primers → for metal, wood and fiberglass (e.g. Plastiprimer, Zinc Primer).
✔️ Antifouling primers → promote the adhesion of antifouling paints (e.g. Adhesion Primer).

📌 Ideal for: protecting fiberglass, steel and aluminum hulls and preventing osmosis.

🎨 Marine Paints (Finishes and Enamels)

Marine paints offer protection and a durable, attractive finish.

Types of paints

✔️ Polyurethane enamels → UV-resistant, ideal for superstructures and interiors (e.g. Polyurethan Gloss).
✔️ Transparent paints → for wood and teak, protecting against the elements (e.g. Wood Gloss).
✔️ Epoxy paints → for underwater protection and anti-corrosion (e.g. Epoxy Coating).

📌 Ideal for: protecting and decorating hulls, decks and boat interiors.

⚓ Antifouling coatings (Antifouling paints)

Antifouling paints prevent the growth of algae and marine organisms on the hull, improving speed and reducing fuel consumption.

Types of antifouling coatings

✔️ Self-polishing → wear off gradually, ideal for sailboats and motorboats traveling at moderate speeds (e.g. Mare Nostrum, Micron Extra).
✔️ Hard matrix → erosion-resistant, suitable for high speeds (e.g. Admiral, Hard Racing).
✔️ Eco-friendly → biocide-free, safe for the environment (e.g. Silic One).

📌 Ideal for: keeping the hull clean and improving performance in the water.

✅ Why use primers, paints and antifouling coatings?

✔️ Long-term protection against corrosion, osmosis and marine agents.
✔️ Better performance while sailing and reduced fuel consumption.
✔️ A well-maintained appearance, with glossy and durable finishes.
