Motorcycle and scooter grips are not just about aesthetics, but play a key role in comfort, grip, and control of the vehicle. Changing them can really improve the riding feel, especially on long journeys or in particular weather conditions. Let's look at everything you need to know 👇

✊ Types of Motorcycle and Scooter Grips

🧼 1. Standard / OEM

  • Similar to stock grips, made of soft or mixed rubber

  • They offer good durability and acceptable grip

  • Great for urban or casual use

🏁 2. Sport / Racing

  • Thinner and stiffer → more handlebar feedback

  • Often used on naked, sport, and track bikes

  • Materials: high-density rubber or gel

  • Brands: Progrip, Domino, Renthal, Ariete

🛵 3. Comfort / Touring

  • Thicker, with gel, soft rubber, or foam inserts

  • They dampen vibrations and hand fatigue

  • Perfect for touring bikes, maxiscooters, and customs

🔥 4. Heated Grips

  • Ideal for winter ❄️

  • They connect to the battery (some with an integrated switch)

  • Universal or plug&play versions (BMW, Honda, Yamaha)

  • Top brands: Oxford, Koso, Daytona

🧲 5. Custom / Vintage / Café Racer Grips

  • In leather, cowhide, old-school rubber, or metal

  • Retro look for vintage bikes, scramblers, and café racers

  • Brands: Biltwell, LSL, Motone, Barracuda Classic

📏 Compatibility: how to choose?

Grip Inner diameter Notes
Left (fixed) ~22 mm Mounted directly on the handlebar
Right (throttle) ~24 mm Must slide over the throttle

✔️ Standard length: 120 – 130 mm
✔️ Some scooters use shorter grips or those with special fittings (e.g. Vespa)

🛠️ Extra considerations

  • Handlebar end plugs: made of aluminum or plastic, some handlebars have anti-vibration weights

  • Glue or grip spray: recommended to prevent the grips from rotating

  • Grips with flanges: help protect your hands (motocross style)
