Le marche di Tires
Road, off-road, enduro, motocross and scooter tires, with matching reinforced inner tubes and valves. To choose parts, use the size marked on the sidewall of your current tire, then consider the type of use: asphalt, mixed, dirt or competition.
How to choose the right motorcycle tires
The choice depends on three intersecting factors: the correct size for your rim, the type of surface you ride on, and the required performance level. Getting any one of these wrong means compromising safety and performance.
Reading the tire size
The width, aspect ratio, and rim diameter are printed on the sidewall of every tire (e.g., 90/90-21 or 140/80-18). These three figures are the mandatory starting point: there is no compromise on size, especially for motorcycles with forks or brakes with fixed-size requirements. Some traditional sizes still appear in inches (e.g., 3.25x16).
Type of use: road, mixed, off-road
Research shows a clear prevalence of enduro, motocross, and supermotard tires, but the range also covers the road and scooter segments. The main categories are:
- Enduro / Motocross: pronounced knobby tread, robust carcass, often tubetype (TT). Mitas Terra Force, Shinko 216 MX/SX, and Plews Tyres Matterly and Grand Prix fall into this category.
- Supermotard (SM): road compound on 17" rims, rounder profile for asphalt, suitable for track or mixed use.
- Road and touring: closed profile, asphalt compound. Michelin City Grip 2 and Power Pure SC cover the scooter segment; Mitas Touring Force SC is designed for touring.
Tubeless or inner tube
TL (tubeless) tires are mounted on special rims without an inner tube. TT (tubed type) tires require an inner tube: always choose the tube with the valve compatible with your rim (TR4D for standard rims, TR6 for enduro rims with large holes, TR87 for scooters with small rims). HD reinforced tubes are recommended for off-road use because they resist pinch punctures better.
Compound and conditions of use
Soft, medium, and hard indicate the hardness of the compound: soft compounds offer more grip when hot but wear out faster, while hard compounds last longer on hard surfaces. For daily road use or touring, balanced compounds are preferred; for racing or intense off-road use, the choice depends on the specific terrain.
Brands available
The catalog includes Vee Rubber and Mitas with wide coverage in off-road sizes, Michelin and Pirelli for the road and scooter segments, Shinko for enduro and motocross, and Plews Tyres for motocross and competition enduro. Generic SGR inner tubes cover the most common sizes.
