Le marche di Windows and glass

Camper windows differ by opening type (sliding, hinged, awning), cutout size, and construction series. To choose the right one, you need to know the exact dimensions of the opening in the vehicle and the series compatible with the existing frame, especially if it is a replacement.

How to choose the right window for your motorhome or caravan

Opening type

Motorhome windows are available in three main configurations: sliding (the glass moves sideways), top-hinged (the panel opens outwards like a door) and top-hung (the glass tilts outwards using telescopic brackets). The choice depends on the position on the vehicle, the available space and the desired ventilation. Sliding windows are common on the sides, while top-hung windows are common on roofs or rear walls.

Measurements and installation opening

The critical measurement is the size of the opening in the wall of the motorhome, not the external size of the frame. The most commonly sought sizes range from compact formats such as 700x300 mm to large formats such as 1450x600 mm or 1550x650 mm. Before purchasing, measure the width and height of the opening precisely, taking into account the frame's overlapping flange.

Series and construction compatibility

Dometic produces the S3, S4 and S5 series (formerly Seitz), which are not interchangeable with each other in terms of the frame. If you are replacing an existing window without modifying the opening, you must use the same series. Roxite windows and Europa windows follow their own dimensional standards. Always check the original series before ordering.

Glass material and colour

The transparent panel can be made of smoke grey polycarbonate (the most common, it reduces solar radiation), bronze or opal (more privacy, typical for bathrooms and dining areas). The frame is almost always made of technical plastic. The colour affects the internal brightness and the heat perceived in summer.

Spare parts: brackets, seals and accessories

In addition to complete windows, you can find telescopic brackets, perimeter seals and other spare parts. For brackets, the key parameter is the height of the window they are intended for. For seals, the profile of the seat (snap-in, push-fit, for aluminium or plastic frames) determines compatibility. Dometic and Remis are among the brands also available for spare parts.

Domande frequenti
