Motorcycle top cases are sold individually or in kits that include the mounting bracket for your specific model. To choose the right one, start with the capacity in litres you need, check if a dedicated mounting bracket is available for your model, and then decide between plastic and aluminium.

How to choose the right top case for your motorcycle

Capacity: how many liters do you really need

Capacity is the first selection criterion. The most common sizes are 26 liters, suitable for those who carry little and want to keep the overall size down, and 39 liters, the most popular size because it generally provides enough space for a full-face helmet. For those with greater storage needs, there are 48, 55, 58, and 59-liter top cases, designed for touring motorcycles and maxi-scooters.

Kit with mount or top case only

Most products are sold as a top case and mount kit, where the mount is already selected for a specific model and year of manufacture. This solution avoids compatibility errors and simplifies installation. If you already have a Shad Top Master plate installed, you can purchase the top case only and mount it directly. Models with a universal mount, on the other hand, require a manual compatibility check with the motorcycle's luggage rack or frame.

Mounting system: Top Master and universal

The Shad Top Master system is available on almost all kits: each mount is designed for a specific model and year, ensuring secure installation without drilling into the frame. Lampa universal mounts, on the other hand, are suitable for standard luggage racks, with screw-in fastening.

Material: plastic or aluminum

The vast majority of top cases are made of plastic, which is lightweight and impact-resistant, and are available in black, carbon, silver, white, and titanium finishes. Aluminum models are less common but are appreciated by those who tackle off-road routes or long trips, due to their greater structural strength.

Compatibility by make and model

The motorcycle make and model filter allows you to immediately narrow down the selection to the mounts available for your vehicle. The most widely covered brands include Yamaha, Honda, BMW, Suzuki, Kymco, Piaggio, Kawasaki, Voge, Zontes, and SYM, with specific mounts for recent models such as scooters, naked bikes, adventure bikes, and maxi-enduro bikes.

Domande frequenti
